Kaffi Lækur & hostel
Located on the edge of Reykjavík city centre, Kaffi Laekur is a speciality cafe, bar and a homey eatery. Our name is pronounced as "Cafe Like" and written in Icelandic as Kaffi Laugalækur. We also have a hostel and a modern art gallery.
Opening hours are 7am - 11pm all days. Breakfast is served from 7 am all days (starting May 22nd 2017). Brunch served on weekends from 10.30am to 3 pm. Kitchen is open until 9 pm every day and the cafe is open from 7 am to 11 pm every day except on some public holidays.
Our menu has good value and healthy Nordic sourdough flatbreads, salads, sandwiches, soups and dish of the day. Homemade cakes and pastries. Vegan options in food and pastries. We have the freshest seasonal food ingredients, speciality coffee and tea, local craft beer, organic wines and a range of good spirits.
The gallery has one exhibition every three months from the best of Iceland's young and progressive artists.
We are well-situated at the heart of the grassy Laugardalur valley - just a stone's throw away from a number of local gourmet shops, the country's largest and popular Laugardalur swimming pool, the botanical gardens, Laugardalur Petting Zoo and Family Parks, and the ferry to Viðey island.
Most of our suppliers and team are located in the same street or neighbourhood as the cafe. Owned by family and friends we have a welcoming and friendly vibe. The atmosphere is Nordic with emphasis on bright, green and handmade interior. Our name refers to the street name and the geothermal water in the area. Reykjavík city takes its name from the natural steam that flows underground our cafe! Lauga means pool, and refers to the hot pools that are in the area and which were used by people to wash clothes in the old times. Lækur means a small river, and refers to the geothermal river that our street is named after.
